Freja Wewer City Guide
MY NAME IS… Freja.
I’M FROM…
I grew up just south of Copenhagen, but I’ve lived here for the past 10 years.
YOU’RE A CREATIVE DIRECTOR, ARE YOU ALSO A FOUNDER?
I’m the Creative Director and Co-Founder of Issue Issue Magazine.
WHY IS INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING IMPORTANT?
Because it gives you the freedom to create something honest. It’s where new ideas, voices and communities can grow without needing to fit into anything predefined.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE BOOKSHOP?
Impossible to choose just one. But I’m extremely inspired by what’s happening at CLIMAX. They’ve really done a lot for book lovers.
WHY DO YOU LIKE THE CEMETERY? CAN YOU EXPLAIN A LITTLE ABOUT IT?
It’s a beautiful park right next to where I live in Copenhagen, so it’s easy to go for a walk. I’ve been going there for as long as I can remember.
WHAT DO YOU WANT IT TO BE KNOWN FOR?
I’ll keep that a secret.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR ISSUE ISSUE THIS YEAR? HOW MANY ISSUES DO YOU DO A YEAR?
We’re launching our fifth issue in October. I can’t wait to share what we’re working on <3
DO YOU WORK ON IT ALONGSIDE OTHER PROJECTS?
Yes, I also work as a photographer.
WHO DO YOU COLLABORATE MOST WITH IN COPENHAGEN?
I have a strong group of close friends I collaborate with across different projects. We’re always supporting each other. I feel very grateful to have that kind of creative community.
WHEN DID YOU START TAKING PICTURES?
As long as I can remember.
WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A MULTI-HYPHENATE?
Definitely. It’s both a strength and a weakness. I can get overly excited about new ideas and projects. I’m learning to balance that. But it’s also what I love about working in magazines. You get to collaborate with so many different people.
BEST RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LUNCH IN COPENHAGEN?
Oooooh… I have to say Restaurant Møntergade. You have to try some classic Danish food when you’re in town.
FAVOURITE DANISH FOOD, AND PLEASE DESCRIBE
My forever favourite dish is stjerneskud, “shooting star.” It’s a very old-school Danish dish that I used to eat with my mother and grandmother when I was a child. You can have it in a casual grill bar version or a more elevated, gourmet take. Both work for me.
