Jess Ruby James' Paris.

Jess Ruby James' Paris.

Australian photographer and SIR. collaborator, Jess Ruby James, made the move to Paris 5 months ago, ready to take on the city after a short sojourn the year prior. We shot with Jess in September, through the streets of Paris, where we witnessed the local charm through Jess’ lens – here she shares her favourite places to people watch, her perfect 24 hours, and why Paris holds a special place in her heart.

How long have you been in Paris and what made you make the move?

I’ve been here full-time for 5 months, but moved last year for 6 months to see if I liked it. It was the hardest year of my life but somehow I came back this year to live full time. It was part wanting a change of scenery and wanting to progress in my career, I love Australia dearly but it's nice to do this for awhile and grow.

What makes Paris so special to you?

The feeling that anything is possible there, that the whole world feels accessible, there is always someone to meet and something to do. Also I've always been drawn to French culture.

A perfect 24 hours in Paris looks like…

Many coffee with friends, into a picnic at the park, into a bike ride through the city to a wine bar that turns into a dance floor at midnight.

Favourite neighbourhood?

Depends on the mood, but Montmartre will always be close to my heart.

Undercover gem?

I don’t know if it's undercover but “Jardin Des Plantes” has a greenroom and it's the best spot to stand in and take a fresh breath of air in the city.

Soundtrack to Paris?

La Femme D’argent - Air.

Where to Eat

It's impossible to name one, but I live across from Bonvivant and I eat there a few times a week, they also have an amazing wine list.

Everywhere, but nothing beats 5 euro Aperol on the seine at “At daniel Rives De Seine”.

Stay

For me the 9th, 10th, 11th, 18th have the best mix of food, art, shopping, cafes and not too touristy.
